The Rehoboth School and its Impressive Mission

Since the beginning of 2023, the WeCare Association has been a proud supporter of Rehoboth School, located in the middle of Kitengela Nonkoopir, the largest slum in Kajiado District. Find out more about the school’s inspiring mission and its founder, Jane Gitonga.

Education against all odds

The Rehoboth School was founded in 2014 with a clear vision: To give disadvantaged children in the region the opportunity for education. Find out how this private school in Kenya takes in the poorest of the poor and waives school fees to make education accessible to all.

The challenges before and during the pandemic

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the school had around 170 pupils, mostly funded by sponsorships. However, the pandemic brought financial bottlenecks that threatened the school’s existence. Find out how the WeCare Association responded to this crisis.

Life-changing help

The WeCare Association took over the school’s fixed costs from January 2023 in order to provide the children with three meals a day. It also covers the teachers’ salaries, rent and school materials. This support brought the number of pupils back up to 170 and the children’s health improved.

A school without violence

In contrast to many other schools in Kenya, corporal punishment (“Caning”) is prohibited at Rehoboth School. This practice makes for a safer and more welcoming learning environment where children are not only educated but also feel safe.

Strengthening the community

Donations for school materials and uniforms have significantly improved cooperation with parents. The school now motivates teachers and pupils alike, and the quality of teaching has been improved through the recruitment of additional and more qualified teachers.

Donations to secure future funding

Help us to secure future funding for the Rehoboth School.

Donate now – every penny counts! Our administrative costs are covered by a private donation. 100% of your donation will go directly to the project.

Your donation helps us to finance the running costs of the Rehoboth School in the slums of Nonkoopir Kitengela (Kenya).

These costs include rent, teachers’ salaries, school materials and meals for the children.

The meals for the children not only ensure their physical well-being but are also an enormous motivation for the parents to send their children to school regularly.

Thank you very much for your support.

The administrative costs of the WeCare Association are covered entirely by a private donation. Your donation will therefore benefit the Rehoboth School project directly and in full.
