An important form of support is the sponsorship of individual schoolgirls.
As there is currently only one dormitory for girls in Iloshon, we currently only support girls there.
In Mperrishi, we are currently also concentrating on combating FGM, which is why only girls are currently receiving financial support to attend school.
We currently support 25 girls in Iloshon and 22 girls in Mperrishi. 5 girls in Iloshon are currently (as of March 1, 2022) in the 8th grade and will take their final exams in March 2022.
We are always looking for sponsors to finance their secondary school education, where they always must live in a dormitory.
Need for Action
Due to the ongoing drought, more and more animal feed has to be bought, which is available for free in the savannah. This expenditure has a devastating impact on an almost non-existent family budget. As a result, more and more families can no longer afford to send their children to school.
We therefore support girls in the dormitory and learning center in Nasaru and in Mperrishi under certain conditions. Above all, however, the parents must undertake to refrain from mutilating the girls.
The availability of food and water at school reduces the absenteeism rates of children at school.
Accommodation at the Nasaru Learning Center
There are currently (as of October 23) 43 girls living in the Nasaru dormitory and learning center funded by the WeCare Association. There would be room for over 70 girls! Here the girls have enough time to do their homework and they also get something to eat.
We also run a sewing workshop there, where the girls – and their mothers if they wish – can learn tailoring. We are very proud that we were able to produce the uniforms for the girls in the sewing workshop in the Nasaru dormitory in 2022.
