Who We Are

The WeCare-Association is a non-profit and independent organization dedicated to sustainable projects in Kenya and Cambodia, providing assistance for self-help. As initiators, we accompany projects to empower local communities to become self-reliant. Our collaboration is marked by respect and appreciation for the culture, history, and customs of the local society.

Our Beginnings

In 2007, Susanne Riz started organizing a bazaar at her home, which evolved into a significant annual fundraising event. Over 11 years, the bazaar raised a total of 520,000 Swiss Francs for charitable purposes, financing numerous projects in Kenya and Cambodia. In 2016, Susanne and her husband Robert Buchbauer founded the non-profit organization “WeCare-Association” to professionalize the association’s activities.

Our name – WeCare-Association

The name of our organization originated from Barack Obama’s campaign slogan in 2008. “Yes We Can” became our motto as we achieved our ambitious goals. After our initial visits to Africa, it transformed into “We Care” because the well-being of the people we support is a top priority, and we aim to help them build a better future.

What We Want

Our goal is to help local people build a better, dignified, and self-determined future for themselves and their families. Our main focus is on projects that enable people to achieve financial independence through work.

Local Collaboration

We work closely with the local population and NGOs active on-site to identify the actual needs and define projects in consultation with them. The nature of collaboration varies depending on the country and culture. In Kenya, for example, we invest in infrastructure projects such as building wells to improve the quality of life for the population and strengthen the local economy.

Sustainable Collaboration

We see ourselves as midwives for our projects and strive for sustainable solutions. A successful project is one that no longer requires our assistance. From this philosophy, projects like the farm in Olpirikata or the social brand Femmes des rizières in Cambodia emerge, contributing long-term to the empowerment of the local community.
